Full Version Spot-Ring Beam Welder: Switchable Beam Modes for New Energy, 3C and Metal Hardware Welding

Multi-Mode Spot-Ring Beam Welding in One Machine

Hanwei Laser has launched its full version spot-ring beam laser welding machine, developed for manufacturers in the new energy, 3C (computer, communication and consumer electronics) and metal hardware processing industries. The machine provides three beam output modes — Gaussian spot (single inner ring), ring spot, and inner-outer hybrid spot — and operators can switch between the modes on site according to the requirements of the actual welding process.

What the Three Beam Modes Do

Different joints, materials and quality targets place different demands on the laser beam. The full version machine covers the three most commonly used beam profiles:

  • Gaussian spot (single inner ring): concentrates the laser energy in the centre, producing a narrow weld with high energy density. It suits precise joints where controlled penetration and a small heat-affected zone are required.
  • Ring spot: distributes part of the energy into an annular profile around the centre. The wider energy distribution helps stabilise the molten pool, reduce spatter, and improve tolerance to fit-up gaps — a practical advantage when welding aluminium alloys, copper alloys and other highly reflective materials.
  • Inner-outer hybrid spot: combines central beam energy with the surrounding ring energy in one process. The centre provides penetration while the outer ring stabilises the weld pool, which widens the process window and supports consistent weld appearance over longer production runs.

Because the three modes are integrated in one complete machine, the operator does not need to change the welding head or move the workpiece to another station. The mode can be selected according to the process requirements of each job.

Industries and Typical Applications

Industry Typical Workpieces Process Demands Addressed
New energy Battery busbars, battery pack structural parts, copper-aluminium connectors Stable and consistent joints, low spatter, controlled heat input for conductive materials
3C Thin-wall housings, precision structural parts, small components Precise energy control, minimal deformation, clean weld appearance
Metal hardware processing Stainless steel, aluminium and copper hardware, sheet metal workpieces, kitchenware Flexible switching between materials and joint types in mixed-batch production

Common weldable materials include stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminium alloys, copper and copper alloys, which covers the majority of jobs found in these three industries.

Practical Benefits for Manufacturers

  • One machine for multiple processes: Gaussian, ring and hybrid modes cover different joints and materials without extra equipment, which is especially valuable for job shops and integrators handling mixed orders.
  • On-site mode switching: the beam mode is adjusted according to the welding process requirements of each workpiece, simplifying production preparation.
  • Stable process results: the ring and hybrid profiles help reduce spatter and support a stable molten pool, contributing to consistent weld quality.
  • Simplified equipment layout: a single full version machine replaces the need for several single-mode setups, saving floor space and simplifying maintenance.
