Description

The Feature of Copper as following :
1.Strong thermal conductivity, copper has high thermal conductivity and requires the use of high-power heat sources; And preheat the welding parts before welding can be carried out.
2.The molten copper liquid has high fluidity and can only be welded in the flat welding position. If one side butt welding is to be carried out in a spatial position, a backing plate must be added to ensure penetration and achieve good formation.
3.The thermal expansion and contraction are large, and the linear expansion coefficient of copper is large. The phenomenon of thermal expansion and contraction during the welding process is particularly obvious, resulting in significant deformation after welding.
4.Oxidation, copper easily oxidizes in liquid form to form cuprous oxide, which dissolves in copper liquid. During crystallization, eutectic crystals with lower melting points are generated, which exist at the grain boundaries of copper, reducing plasticity and easily causing cracks.
5.Porosity, high solubility of hydrogen in liquid copper; After solidification, the solubility decreases again. During welding, the weld cools quickly, and excess hydrogen cannot escape in time, forming hydrogen pores. In addition, at high temperatures, cuprous oxide reacts with hydrogen and carbon monoxide to generate water vapor and carbon dioxide. If all of them cannot escape before solidification, pores are also formed.
Argon arc welding is the best welding method for copper and copper alloys, which can protect the molten pool from oxidation and gas dissolution. Heat concentration can reduce deformation and ensure welding penetration. Gas welding, manual arc welding, etc. can also be used, but suitable process measures should be taken because the resistance value of copper is small and resistance welding is not suitable.
Copper is a relatively difficult material to weld, and fusion welding methods include gas welding, carbon arc welding, manual arc welding, and manual tungsten argon arc welding. Can be selected based on quality requirements, process level, and technical conditions.
